'Elysium' is the latest track to be revealed from Bristol based rapper ThisisDA's forthcoming album Super Arkane.
Following the release of his 'Lifers' video which was premiered on Noisey and appeared on the likes of Earmilk, The Needle Drop, OnSmash and SB.TV, ThisisDA switches up moods with his pensive, melancholic new track. Demonstrating the versatility of producer Mankub, this track is a far cry from the uplifting 'Lifers' with the 19-year-old rapper considering our generations problems from the perspective of people within the struggle.
"Riding in my boat I'm just tryna stay afloat" - a line which I believe will resonate with a lot of people in today's society - sums up the concept of the song. The title 'Elysium' also provides a contradiction to the thought process behind the track. I'm a self-contradicting person, hence the name choice," he explains.
The skit in the intro (taken from the 1990 film Lord of the Flies) explains that "it's just a story". Which, in itself is a double entendre. The first person perspective on the track is fictional, but describes situations that a lot of people are going through. "It also stands for a majority of social tragedies we hear on the news and through word of mouth." says ThisisDA, "We tend to get sad about it but forget about people's struggles because it seems like just media stories at the end of the day."
The longer skit that closes the song (taken from 1992's Single White Female) is a psychotic murderer having a moment of what seems like internal reflection; the perfect way to close the song.
Look out for Super Arkane dropping later this month...
